THE Sing Spelthorne community choir project was in good voice this week as singers of all ranges and abilities took to Brooklands College, in Ashford, to join in the vocal gymnastics.

On Saturday 29th October, Two Rivers Shopping Centre in Staines will be hosting a safe 'trick or treating' event to celebrate Halloween. Whilst parents shop, children are invited to search for pictures of pumpkins in the shop windows. Whenever they spy one, they must enter the shop to request their treat. If that's not enough to keep them amused, there will also be facepainting, glitter tattoos and Halloween mask making on offer.

Joanna Hall, Centre Manager of Two Rivers Shopping Centre, commented: "We realise that trick or treating can be a tricky dilemma for parents so we are pleased to be able to offer a safe option. I think that the event will provide a fun experience for the children, whilst getting the whole family into the Halloween spirit."

HOMES and roads had to be evacuated and cordoned off after an unexploded bomb was found in a cottage garden in Laleham.

Police received a call after Bruce and Mavis Duncan, of Blacksmith's Lane, reported the find at around 1pm on Friday.

The road and surrounding areas were soon cordoned off while police waited for an army bomb disposal unit to blow up the German incendiary device in a ditch that was dug in a nearby football field.

Reporter Anne-Sophie Briant reviews the Wraysbury Players latest production, Don't Dress For Dinner. Showing at Wraysbury Village Hall until Saturday.

A STYLISH country farmhouse is the setting for Marc Camoletti's hilarious farce Don't Dress for Dinner.

Bernard is hoping to entertain his beautiful mistress Suzy for the weekend and has arranged a cook to provide gourmet delights for his clandestine dinner.

He has packed off his wife Jacqueline to visit her mother and his best friend Robert has been invited as a suitable alibi.

Bernard is all set for his romantic weekend when things start to go horribly wrong.

What should have been a straightforward love tryst deteriorates with lots of misunderstandings and confusion in this hilarious comedy.

The Wraysbury Players deliver an excellent performance for this very funny play.
Ben Wood takes the role of Bernard in his stride. His smooth performance won the audience over right from the first minute.

The cook, Lena Vantoll has a cockney accent like you've never heard before. She portrays a stuck-up, made-up and utterly ridiculous Diva wannabe in an impeccable way.
The young Dan Stock is perfect as the charming, goody two-shoes, Robert who gets caught in the middle of the married couple's devious plans.

His command of the incredibly tricky monologues which would make a right minded man go mad were to be applauded.

The set provided just the right atmosphere for the middle class couple's home.

Some of the props were grotesque but added a magic touch. Bernard's puppy slippers, the cook's raunchy apron, the gong instead of the bell to call for dinner, the mistress's Miss Piggy wig , the fake tattoo on the arms of George, the cook's husband. All these reflected the cast's obvious pleasure in the whole production.

Put all these ingredients together and you get much more than an amateur performance. Each character was played in tune in an excellent Vaudeville style making the brilliant farces irresistible.

The Wraysbury Players have offered the audience a really good time and a glimpse at sheer talent.

Tickets for Don't Dress for Dinner are £7.00. Bar opens at 7.30pm curtains up at 8pm.

An Ideal Husband in Thorpe

Posted by Thorpe Players on May 18, 11 11:40 AM in What's On

Are you missing your fix of Downton Abbey? Do you need more class and fabulous frocks in your life? Then Thorpe Players may have the answer. Their next play is An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde, and plays don't come much classier than that.

A story about an honest politician whose past catches up with him, director Valerie Lane says that "the play may have been written in 1895, but some issues don't change, and human nature certainly doesn't! The cast have worked incredibly hard to make sure that the play is both enjoyable and relevant to a modern audience." All Wilde's usual and clever story-telling is contained in this classic comedy, which is at Thorpe Village Hall from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st May at 8pm. Tickets cost £9 and £10 and can be booked on 07923 583295 or on the door, subject to availability.
