Pupils are not lost for words

Posted by Graham Spence on Jul 7, 08 02:08 PM in Schools/colleges

PUPILS from Buckland Primary School, Laleham, pored over books during a visit to Books Etc in Staines on Thursday last week.

Each term children from year 4 and year 5 have walked to the Two Rivers store in an effort to encourage them to read more.

They were then given the opportunity to buy books for themselves with the help of £5 book vouchers.

It was the pupils' final visit this school year as part of the initiative, sponsored by the National Literacy Trust.

Jacqui Tracey, the year 5 teacher in charge of literacy for key stage two, said: "The children have really enjoyed the whole experience of visiting the bookshop and being able to choose new books for themselves. This is their third visit this year so the children have really benefitted from this initiative."

We'd like to hear from you.
