Fury as vandals sabotage safety boat

boatvandals.jpgYoung rowers from Staines Boat Club are unable to train after vandals cut all the wires in the outboard motor of the club's safety launch.

The craft, which is used to monitor the juniors when they train, was moored outside the clubhouse in Riverside Drive, Staines.

MP fires bail hostel warning

davidwilshiremp.jpgLocal people could be "put at risk" if a bail hostel is opened in Staines, Spelthorne's Tory MP is warning.

David Wilshire sounded the alarm after discovering the town is on a list of possible locations drawn up by ClearSprings, a private contractor working for the government.

WHEN Iona Ovenell returned home from a frantic search of Staines for her lost purse she was amazed to return home and find it in her 12-year-old son's hand.

But young Cameron is no pickpocket - her wallet had been handed in by two good samaritans who had found it on Kingston Road.

With the title of England's most improved school 2004-2007 to live up to, Matthew Arnold pupils were under pressure to perform.

The Kingston Road, Staines, school earned the accolade in January and head teacher Jackie Pearson was delighted they managed to keep up their high standards this year, with 63% achieving five A*-C.

Cannabis factory raided by police

drugsraid.jpgA cannabis factory in Wraysbury Road was so well disguised that even near-neighbours had no idea it was operating in a terraced house in their street.

The run-of-the-mill end-of-terrace contained such a sophisticated set-up that police had to call the electricity board to cut off the power as they feared shocks from booby traps or complicated wiring for lights to grow the marijuana.

Commuters who cycle to Staines train station will be able to get their bikes a free electronic tagging device from British Transport Police tomorrow (Thursday, 21) from 4pm-7pm.

The BTP said theft of cycles on the railway network has been an ongoing problem and the service is being offered in conjunction with Evans Cycles.

colinstagg.jpgColin Stagg - the man wrongly accused of murdering Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common - won £706,000 compensation thanks to a solicitor from Staines.

He secured the bumper payout with the help of Alex Tribick, 34, who is a partner at W. H. Matthews in Church Street.

Teenager mugged near station

A 13-year-old was robbed in broad daylight for £13 on a path near Staines train station.

Police have arrested two men over the attack, which took place on Tuesday August 5 at about 12.15pm.
