Sir Cliff at Woolworth's
Cliff Richard fans queued in the pouring rain to meet their hero as he signed copies of his new book at Woolworth's in Staines.
Entry was restricted to those who had got hold of one of 750 specially produced wristbands but there was no sign of any pushing and shoving as the crowds waited patiently to see the singer.
Some turned up to the signing on September 6 in Sir Cliff T-shirts and with banners to show their support for their idol.
The queue stretched back outside the High Street shop with people willing to wait in the downpours for just for a few moments with the the 67-year-old, who contrary to earlier reports was happy to pose for pictures with his fans young and old.
First to get her copy of Cliff Richard: My Life: My Way was Elaine Smithers but the singer stayed on beyond his alloted one-hour slot to continue penning his autograph so the likes of Julie Crane, who was the last to see him, got her hands on the book.
Sir Cliff said: "I had a fantastic afternoon in Staines. it is always nice to meet my fans face-to-face. The turnout has blown me away and the atmosphere was brilliant. I hope everyone enjoys my new book."
The singer's publicist approached Woolworths to stage the signing and as well as the Staines one, Sir Cliff also met fans on September 3 at its store in Reading.
