The Staines Sea Cadets are set to be granted a temporary home in Lammas Park, Staines, after Spelthorne Council planning officers recommended the proposal was approved.

The cadets are being moved from their headquarters in Bridge Street while a 143-flat development incorporating a new base for them is built so they applied to relocate to the park for three years.

The temporary headquarters will provide accomodation, a boat store and slipway into the Thames and, despite being on Green Belt land, was recommended for approval because it will only be in use for three years.

During the 18 months since the George Wimpey Homes plans were first unveiled, the cadets have seen their membership fall due to uncertainty about the organisation's future.

But, if Spelthorne Council's planning committee agree with the recommendation at the meeting on Wednesday October 15, they can plan for the three years until their new Bridge Street headquarters is ready.

We'd like to hear from you.
