Is this thief who stole from WW2 vet?
Detectives have issued an e-fit following the theft of cash and a mobile phone in a distraction burglary at the home of an elderly Staines couple.
A man called at the door of the property in Bremer Road saying he believed one of the fireworks he had set off for his daughter's birthday had gone into their garden.
The suspect was let into the house by the householder, a Second World War veteran in his 70s, who went to check the garden, heading to the back of the property.
When he returned the suspect had left and the householder later discovered his wife's handbag, which had been in the living room and in full view of the hallway was missing. The handbag contents included £60 cash and a mobile phone.
The suspect is described as white, aged between 35-40, about 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build. He had a thin-shaped face with short fair hair and was wearing a charcoal grey jacket.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Dave Thomas, said: "I am keen to speak to other witnesses who saw a man matching this description in the area at the time and hope the e-fit will prompt some memories.
"I would also ask the person responsible for this crime to examine their conscience. One of the victims of this crime is a veteran of the Second World War. Is this how someone who sacrificed so much should be repaid?"
Any witnesses or anyone with information to the burglary, which occurred on Tuesday October 28 between 6.20pm-6.30pm, is asked to contact DC Thomas at Staines CID on 0845 125 2222 quoting crime reference SL/08/6281.
