Brave girl beats off attacker

Posted by Ed Saunt on Dec 10, 08 08:30 AM in Crime

A woman in her 20s managed to fight off a would-be bag snatcher in Staines by hitting him with her umbrella.

The victim was approached from behind by the man as she walked along the bridleway between Gresham Road and Knowle Green on Thursday December 3 between 4.35pm and 4.45pm.

He attempted to grab the bag and pulled it until the handle broke. But the woman, who was unhurt, managed to cling on and hit her attacker with her umbrella and he fled empty-handed in the direction of Gresham Road.

The suspect is described as being aged in his 20s, about 6ft tall with dark skin and black curly hair that was half an inch long. He was wearing a dark blue coat, dark shoes or trainers and carrying a large dark blue sports bag.

Anyone with information should call Detective Constable Damien McIntyre at Staines CID on 0845 125 2222, quoting crime reference number SL/08/7440 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
