Melissa Huggins cancer appeal - how YOU can help
Herald & News readers have been touched by the poignant story of Melissa Huggins, the beautiful 27-year-old Staines teacher who needs to raise nearly £200,000 for lifesaving cancer treatment.
Melissa, a teacher at St Ignatius Primary School in Lower Sunbury, has an aggressive, fast-spreading brain tumour and the only treatment that can save her is proton radiotherapy - a highly expensive cure only available in America.
But time is running out. At the beginning of December, she was told the disease had started to attack her lower spine and the more it spreads, the more it costs to treat.
The current figure has reached £190,000 but, so far, her family, friends and finacee, James Pegram, have raised just £16,000. Despite a series of upcoming fundraising events, the task is a huge one and she needs as much help as possible.
