Staines sees the dragon and the saint visit

Posted by Mark Goode on Apr 27, 09 11:56 AM in What's On

St George's day was celebrated in Staines on Thursday April 23 ww.goowhen two members of the Staines Partnership dressed up in costume.

Town centre manager Stuart Douthwaite and business crime reduction co-ordinator Ray Mewell dressed as St George and the dragon respectively in the High Street and gave out flags and balloons to passers by.

The event was a first for the non-profit partnership, who act as a residents' association for local traders.

Ray said: "We originally wanted to hold the day for four hours, but we gave out all our stuff in two. Lot's of people were coming up and telling us it was good to see people celebrating the day, and said they would like to see it again next year."

Ray said the idea was thought up around St Patrick's day, where he noticed celebrations all over the town, and thought it would be good to mark St George's.

We'd like to hear from you.
