Local drama group Thorpe Players is breaking new ground with their next production. Not only is it an European premiere, but it features a mother and daughter acting the roles of mother and daughter. Dee and Angie Bews have both been members for many years, but this is the first time that they have acted together and they are both thrilled to be playing Mrs Bennet and her daughter Lizzie in a new adaptation of Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice.
Director Sharon Young "searched for a version of the story that kept the truth of the book, and this one by Jon Jory does just that. I am excited and nervous at staging such a well-known and well-loved classic, but I know my cast will meet the challenge and they and the audience will enjoy the humour and charm of the play." Thorpe Village Hall is an old barn, and just right for this show, which takes place from Wednesday 10th to Saturday 13th June at 8pm. Tickets are £9 and can be booked on 07923 583295.

View imageJust what West London needs... a new live-music venue to rival any that have gone before. Almost as big as The Astoria; certainly larger than the old Brentford Red Lion; and it makes Filthy McNasty's look positively cramped. Sticky Fungus, sited in the old Staines Telephone Exchange, is forging ahead where previous dance nightclubs have tried and failed (due mainly to unsociable behaviour). But now Sticky Fungus is attracting an entirely different, more easy-going demographic, and it's doing so with aplomb. The promoters are putting on 2 or 3 bands, 7 nights a week, with a rigid approach to ensuring only high quality acts make the booking list.
A large stage area, along with state-of-the-art sound and lighting, has a long line of bands, from near and far, already queuing up to make their mark on this exciting new project. The audiences will experience an immense barrage of crisp sound and kaleidoscopic light shows, as they encounter all genres of mainstream music. From metal on a Monday, through indie on Thursday, to party covers and rock on Friday and Saturday, respectively. The 7 ages of rock, fitted neatly into a 7-day week.
"If the band is not to your liking on the night" says Lee Homan, one of the club's owners, "you can retire to the upstairs bar, where an 8 ft screen will be showing the act, at a slightly reduced volume". "In time, all gigs will be videoed, copied to CD and made available for purchase on the night".
4 years in the planning, Sticky Fungus is finally a reality. It's creating one hell of a buzz, and already has the potential to become legendary.
