Pensioner mugged in broad daylight

An elderly woman from Staines was the victim of an attempted robbery in broad daylight on Tuesday May 19.
.
Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses after an 83-year-old woman from Staines was targeted in Grosvenor Road, Staines at around 4.25pm.

The victim was approached by a male suspect, who got out of a black Audi and told her to hand over her handbag.

She refused to hand it over, and the so the suspect attempted to snatch it out of her hands.

The victim did not let go of the bag but fell to the floor as a result, and suffered minor injuries to her right hip and ribs but did not require hospital treatment.

The suspect got back into his vehicle and drove away without taking anything.

A 21-year-old male from Bedfont was arrested later that day by Metropolitan Police on suspicion of attempted robbery.

He was transferred to Staines Police Station, in Kingston Road, and has since been released on bail until Friday 10 July while enquiries continue.
