Another swan bites the dust (but a fox made a meal out of it)

A dead swan was found next to the River Thames in Staines on Saturday May 30.

The unconscious bird was dragged from the water by a passing woman in the morning but died later that day.

The swan sanctuary, in Felix Lane, Shepperton, was notified, but as the bird was dead they didn't pick it up.

Dot Beeson, founder of the sanctuary, said: "We believe it hit a bridge but can't be sure. People were thinking it was vandalism but I'm glad it wasn't, but I know that a fox took its head off that night, because that is what foxes do."

Ms Beeson explained that a number of swans each year die by hitting bridges due to their eyesight.

We'd like to hear from you.
