Builders have a narrow escape when a tree falls

Two builders had a lucky escape when a weeping willow fell on their vans on Wednesday June 24.

Philip Rawstron and Richard Smith were re-decorating the exterior of their boss' house in Shortwood Common Road when the tree fell on their vans at around 2.15pm.

Mr Rawstron, who lives in Sunbury, said: "I was up on a ladder on the house and I heard a creak, and saw it fall down on the vans.

"It was lucky because we were sitting in the van 10 minutes before."

The damage to the vehicles is not yet known, but there was no broken glass or material around.

Mr Rawstron said: "It looked like one of the branches broke the fall, but it means no one can get out and I might not be able to get home."

The Holloway and Moore Properties men builders also said they saw another close call in the form of a young woman who had to stop suddenly as the tree began to fall in front of her eyes.

The pair were currently waiting for the local authority to come and clear the road at the time of writing.
