Helicopter lands on Staines roundabout

A passing driver who witnessed a helicopter land in the middle of a wooded roundabout has praised the pilot's quick skills.

Chertsey resident Steven Blockley was passing over Staines Bridge on Monday June 22 when he was stuck in a police controlled traffic jam while Surrey Air Ambulance attended to crash victims.

The helicopter was flying nearby, so when a collision occurred between a car and a motorbike in The Causeway at 1.28pm, the flying machine landed on the roundabout and administered aid.

Mr Blockley, who stepped out of his car to take a picture while waiting in traffic, said: "The roundabout is covered in trees and it landed in the middle, so I was pretty impressed. The landing happened before I got there, but the police were managing traffic well."

The driver of the motorbike and vehicle only sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene, but they didn't require hospital treatment.
