Talking on Thorpe Park's rides

When most people go to Thorpe Park they scream on the fast rides, but not me.

I was invited down to sample the summer holiday fun at the theme park and I took a good friend of mine who is a bit scared of rides along with me.

Six hundred cannabis plants were found during a morning drugs raid by police on Friday August 14.

At 10.24am tactical squads from Staines CID raided an address in Penton Hook Road, Staines and arrested Vietnamese Don Van Pham, 38, and a 17-year-old boy at the scene on suspicion of being concerned in the production of class B drugs.

A woman was allegedly raped on Sunday night in Staines town centre.

Police officers were patrolling the centre at 2.30am when members of the public reported a distressed woman in Memorial Gardens Park, next to the Town Hall pub.

Burglars who broke into three Staines flats during the daytime are believed to have been 'buzzed in' by neighbours.

Police are appealing for witnesses after properties in the Moormead Estate and Kingston and London Road areas were broken into between 11am and 2pm on Tuesday, July 14.

LIFE expectancy in the least affluent parts of Spelthorne are seven years less than in richer areas of the borough, according to a new report.

The 2009 Health Report on Spelthorne was published by the Department of Health-funded Association of Public Health Observatories, which documented the health statistics of Surrey's boroughs.

A meeting based to try and improve the life of Spelthorne is taking place in September.

On September 21 at Spelthorne Leisure Centre, in Knowle Green, the annual meeting of Spelthorne Together, formerly the Local Spelthorne Partnership, will take place.

It is free and all people are invited to share ideas on the key issues affecting life in the borough.

A mass balloon release to raise money for charity Help for Heroes is taking place at the end of the month.

On Sunday August 30 in Two Rivers Shopping Centre anyone who has lost or who knows someone in the war in Afghanistan can release a balloon in their honour.

Also, every Wednesday and Sunday in the month face painting is being held outside Costa Coffee to raise money for the charity

A special talk on plants is being held at the end of the month.

At the next meeting of Thames Horticultural Society on Thursday August 27, M C Dobell will be giving a talk on Begonias in Christ Church Hall, Kenilworth Gardens.

Admission for visitors is £1.

A car was completely destroyed by arsonists on the morning of Wednesday August 5 in a quiet Staines road.

The blue Fiat Brava was left as a charred black remain in Georgian Close after the fire, which started at around 3.30pm, destroyed the vehicle.

ON MONDAY commuters leaving Egham railway station were missing something.

They missed the smile of ticket office clerk Mohammad Ishaq - The longest serving employee on the Wandsworth Town to Reading railway line.
