Police still appealing for witnesses after smash and grab

Detectives are still appealing for witnesses for a smash and grab incident in Staines after three motobikes believed to have been used were found in Thorpe.

The incident happened at jewellery store Swag in Staines High Street on Monday August 31 at 11am, where five people on three mopeds used sledgehammers to steel £50,000 worth of jewellery, including 80 rings, from the shop window.

But on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September the three bikes were found by a member of the public in a remote are of woodland off Thorpe Road.

Detectives believe the motorbikes are the same vehicles used, who entered Staines as a convoy over Staines Bridge, round Two River's shopping centre, and up pedestrianised Tillys Lane.

The bikes, which are believed to be a stolen blue and white Suzuki, an orange Triumph, and a grey Ducati, have now been seized and are being forensically examined by Surrey Police.

Detective sergeant Mike Seear, who is leading the investigation, said: "This is a significant development in the investigation and we still need information from the public.

"The motorbikes have been left in the location for somewhere between seven and ten days and we urgently need further details, particularly if you saw the motorbikes being left at this location and where the riders and passengers went afterwards.

"It is likely they will have transferred to another vehicle and any information or description of that vehicle could prove vital to this ongoing investigation."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with any information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222, quoting reference SL/09/7082, or call Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
