Spelthorne schools visit council offices

Schoolchildren from all over the borough visited Spelthorne Council's offices on Friday November 13.

Pupils from ten primary schools, including Saxon Primary School, in Briar Road, Shepperton, and Our Lady of the Rosary, in Park Avenue, Staines, visited as part of the Junior Citizenship event, which saw each school deliver a presentation on what sporting activities they would like to see provided in the borough.

The pupils also took part in a question and answer session with Mayor of Spelthorne Caroline Spencer, and enjoyed a tour of the Knowle Green offices.

Claire Moore, facilities manager at the council said: "The children's research and results were of great interest to us. We are drawing up a physical activity and sports strategy for the borough and the suggestions which came up will be taken into account."

The children had to prepare for the event by surveying the classmates to see which sports they would like to tale part in, both in and out of school.

Afterwards, mrs Spencer gave the kids certificates and bags containing stationery and sports bottles.

She said: ""Young people, health and well being are priorities for Spelthorne and I am very pleased to see how much enjoyment and benefit these children derive from being active. The thorough job they have done in researching and presenting this topic is brilliant."

The Sainsbury's, in The Causway, Staines, donated fruit for the kids during their break.
The other schools involved were St Ignatius, Springfield, amd Chennestone, from Sunbury, Kingscroft, in Staines, Clarendon and Echelford, in Ashford, and St Michael's, in Shepperton.

We'd like to hear from you.
