Spelthorne shed thieves target fishing gear

Posted by Mark Goode on Nov 30, 09 01:36 PM in Crime

Two thefts of fishing equipment from sheds have taken place in the borough over the last two weeks.

A large amount of fishing gear was stolen from a house in School Road, Ashford, on Friday November 27, when thieves broke a padlock to enter.

On Friday November 20 in Wood Road, Shepperton, thieves stole fishing gear and a remote control helicopter from a shed.

Surrey Police said they see a rise in shed burglaries on the run up to Christmas, and are asking the public to secure items to a wall, or keep them in another place.

On Saturday November 21 thieves stole a lawn mower from a shed in Ford Close, Ashford.

Spelthorne neighbourhood inspector Rebecca Kempster, said: "There is always an increase in shed burglaries at this time of year, so we are appealing for the public to take extra care in storing their belongings."
