Staines opticians to donate blood
A team of 11 staff from a Staines opticians will be donating blood this month to encourage others to follow their lead.
The colleagues from Specsavers in Staines and Egham will visit the Methodist Church in Thames Street on Friday December 4.
Russ Dawkins, optometrist and store director, said: "I have been donating blood for 20 years and feel very strongly that if it is something you are able to do, then you should.
"During the winter months donations are at their lowest due to higher numbers of flu cases, therefore it is more important than ever that those who can donate blood do so.
"Donated blood is not only a potential lifesaver for those that have been in an accident or need it to help survive treatments and operations, but it is also given to terminally ill patients, which can help improve their quality of life during their final months, weeks or days."
