Staines railway station to be improved by £387,000 funding
Work has begun on a £387,000 upgrade to Staines railway station.
The department of transport are funding the work, which is due to completed early next year, and will see a new canopy provided as a shelter near the entrance, and an improved waiting room.
The work will also see new toilets installed on both platforms, more parking spaces for cyclists, better CCTV security, a renovated forecourt and car park, and a new shop.
Chris Mole, transport minister, said: "This upgrade will result in much-improved facilities for rail passengers travelling through the station.
Andy Pitt, managing director of South West Trains, said: "We're really pleased to be working with the Department of Transport to deliver these improvements. We're certain they will be welcomed.
The work is being carried out under the National Stations Improvement Programme, which is designed to make 150 stations in the country nicer.
