Staines supermaket raises money for Middlesex hospital
A supermarket in Staines raised more than £3000 for a hospital in Middlesex over 2009.
Marks and Spencer, in Staines High Street, chose the Special Care Baby Unit in West Middlesex University Hospital in Isleworth, as their charity to raise money for in 2009, and over the year they came up with £3347.
On Thursday January 7 Elaine Gough from the store, who had her first son at the hospital 24 years ago, brought their last cheque for £660 and met with doctors.
Siew Koay, ward manager at the hospital, said: "We are so grateful to the team at Marks and Spencer in Staines for their hard work in raising this money.
"We have used it to purchase lots of new equipment in the unit, including a new laptop and a projector which will help us teach parents vital skills for when their children leave Special Care."
The store raised the money from various means, including through a special 125 anniversary sale.
Richard Bishop, store manager at Staines' M&S, said: "The store is really happy to donate this money to such an important cause. The team raise money through various activities including a tombola, karaoke night, selling home made cakes to staff and a Christmas raffle.
"We hope the equipment bought with the money will help parents and babies for many years to come."
