Two young friends from Kingscroft Junior in Staines will be running for charity this Sunday (March 21).

Sophie Simpson, 11, and Harrison Kent, 10, who both attend the Park Avenue school, will be running the Sport Relief Mile at Feltham Community College and are hoping to raise £250 to go to vulnerable and needy people.

Spelthorne Civic Pride volunteers will clean rubbish from the River Thames tow-path on Sunday March 28,

Volunteers will meet in Ferry Lane, Laleham at 10am to pick up the litter.

Ten offenders joined Spelthorne's mayor on Monday (March 1) to help make a Staines park brighter.

Caroline Spencer headed the Mayor's Community Payback Project with people supplied by the probation service who helped paint railings and plant bulbs in Fordbridge Park, in Kingston Road.

Volunteers braved the freezing weather and cleaned Staines town's rivers, alleys, and streets of rubbish on Friday (February 26).

The event was organised by Spelthorne councillors for Staines Sam Budd and deputy mayor John O'Hara, along with members of Staines Rotary club.

Volunteers from Egham and Staines are being called to help replant a hedge in Moor Lane.

The Egham and Staines Conservation Volunteers are working with Surrey County Council and the Spelthorne Tree Wardens to try and replant a hedge to control cattle and horses on Staines Moor.

The group are calling on people to meet on Sunday March 28 between 10am-1pm in the road.

The Mayor of Spelthorne was the guest of honour at the STEPS open day on Tuesday, February 9.

The alternative education programme, which helps young people who by their own admission don't work well in school, hosted an open day at the Staines Learning centre in Wyatt Road, to demonstrate what they had been learning.

As well as Mayor Councillor Caroline Spencer, representatives from the police were there to donate a cheque for £500.

Wackily dressed racers turned out in full to Staines High Street for the fourth annual charity pancake race.

Eight teams of two who were dressed in a variety of outfits, including Batman and Robin , Thunderbirds, and chefs, who took part in the relay in the town centre to raise money for Staines Shopmobility.

Two Spelthorne residents have been given awards for giving more than 175 blood donations between them.

Susan Burgess, of Lammas Road, Staines, and Linda Bishop, of Queens Walk, Ashford, were given a crystal decanter for more than 100 donations and a a crystal plate for more than 75 respectively at a National Blood Service ceremony.

Staines' two shopping centres have joined forces to create to help address town centre issues.

Elmsleigh and Two Rivers have created the Staines Town Centre Retail Forum, so they can jointly host events, support charities, produce the promotional leaflets, and try and resolve issues.

The scheme also aims to work with Spelthorne Council.

Matthew Arnold School will be hosting a cabaret in February to raise money for Leukaemia Research the Forget Me Not Fund.

Students from the Sylvia Young Theatre School will be visiting on February 11 in memory of ex-pupil Matthew Lyne, who was 17 when he died of the disease last year.

It is believed one of the dancers was in High School Musical three.
